FAO Year 1 Weekly Roundup24 January 2025 (by Ellie Gath (Ellie Gath)) |
Hi Year 1,
This week we have finished our topic focusing on the book 'Stanley's Stick' by creating our own mini books based on what we could pretend a stick might be and why we would bring it with us everywhere. We then started a new book in English called 'Ruby's Worry'. We discovered that the best way to make a worry go away is to tell someone about it, and wrote down messages of what we would say to make someone feel better if they told you they were worried about something.
In Maths we learnt all about the names of 2D and 3D shapes and how you can identify them. The end of this week we have then moved on to the topic of measuring- firstly we have thought about which objects in our classroom are taller or shorter and we then moved on to thinking about which objects are heavier or lighter using scales, and focusing on our special word 'mass'- understanding that the heavier object has a greater/bigger mass.
The children have also been really enjoying some new things this week, including library time and the use of house points which seems to be a great motivator in their learning and behaviour at school.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend :)
Miss Gath
