Hi Year 1,

We have had a busy week back, and the children seem to be very excited for our trip to the Zoo and for World Book Day next week. This afternoon the children have been creating pictures for our Door decorating competition- each class is decorating a door based on a chosen book and there will be winners in each Key Stage. Our door is based on The Gingerbread Man, using pictures of cakes, biscuits, animals and of course creating our own little Gingerbread men. 

This week our Curriculum focus was Art, where we have made 3D tree sculptures using coloured card as well as spider sculptures using newspaper. 

In English, we started a new book called 'Madlenka' and thought about good news that we might want to share with people we know, labelled a map of where we live and described someone special to us. 

In Maths, we looked at part whole models with addition and subtraction problems, and then thought about problem solving using everyday objects with take away problems. 

The children also practised their ball skills with the PE coach on Monday, and had a singing lesson with our music teacher who will be back now to teach music lessons every Tuesday.
