FAO: Whole School: Update on Autumn Disco and Christmas Festivities

17 October 2025 (by Holly Evans (admin))

    Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to share an update regarding the upcoming school disco. Following valuable conversations during our recent Coffee Morning and reflections on previous years’ events, we have decided to change the theme from a Halloween Disco to an Autumn Disco.

This decision comes after thoughtful feedback from a number of parents who expressed that not all children feel comfortable with the “scary” elements traditionally associated with Halloween. Some parents of children with additional needs also shared that their children have found the Halloween theme overwhelming, which has unfortunately led them to miss out on the fun altogether.

In addition, some families mentioned that they sometimes feel under pressure to buy or create costumes so that their children do not feel left out—something that can be difficult, especially with the cost of living challenges many are facing. By moving to an Autumn Disco, we hope to make the event more inclusive, relaxed, and enjoyable for all our pupils and families, ensuring that every child feels able to take part.

As we mentioned previously, children are very welcome to come dressed in whatever they like—whether that’s a Halloween costume, autumn-inspired outfit, fancy dress, or party clothes. The main idea is for them to have fun and feel celebrated.

We have also been made aware that a petition may be circulating regarding this change. Please be assured that we are always open to hearing your views. As mentioned in our newsletters, you are warmly invited to join our Coffee Mornings, speak with us on the playground, or contact us directly via the school’s admin email address. We value your ideas and appreciate your ongoing engagement.

Finally, we would like to clarify that there has been some misunderstanding regarding our Christmas celebrations. Christmas at our school remains very much part of our annual calendar and preparations are already underway. It continues to be a cherished British tradition within our community, and we look forward to celebrating it together. We will shortly be sending out meeting dates and invitations to gather your thoughts and support for this year’s festivities.

Thank you for your understanding and for your continued partnership in making our school a welcoming and inclusive place for every child.
