Coming home!12 June 2026 (by Josie Hetherington (Josie Hetherington)) |
How has a whole week passed already?
Last night, the children embarked on an exciting orienteering expedition. Along the way, we discovered two World War II bunkers and an anti-tank structure. After doing some research, we learned that Tolmers was originally an all-girls school before being requisitioned during World War II and transformed into a Military and Emergency Hospital. We also discovered more about Cuffley’s important role on the Home Front. Due to its proximity to the Royal Small Arms Factory in nearby Enfield, the area was considered a high-risk target for German bombers. Local residents played a vital role in supporting the war effort, serving as Air Raid Wardens, auxiliary firefighters, and members of the Women's Voluntary Services (WVS).
Once our trek was complete, we packed our belongings and tidied our rooms in preparation for leaving the lodge at 10 o’clock this morning. The children showed great determination, resilience, and independence (for the most part!) and are now ready to enjoy their final day before returning to school.
Today, we are looking forward to taking part in tunnel scurrying and slackline walking before our journey home.
It has been a truly fantastic experience and we have created so many wonderful memories that the children will be eager to share with you when they return. We hope you haven’t missed them too much! We look forward to seeing you all very soon.
